Product Overview

The Kongsberg EM 2040 MKII is a true wideband, high-resolution multibeam echosounder (MBES) designed for the most demanding shallow-water mapping and inspection tasks. Built on the success of the original EM 2040, the MKII version introduces an expanded frequency range and enhanced processing power, making it the first system to bring deep-water multibeam features—like 3-sector transmit and frequency modulation (FM)—into the near-bottom environment.

With an operational frequency range of 200 kHz to 700 kHz, the EM 2040 MKII allows operators to choose between maximum depth penetration and surgical imaging resolution on the fly. It is fully compliant with IHO S-44 Special Order and the even more stringent LINZ specifications.

  • 3-Sector Transmit: Divides the transmit fan into three separate sectors that ping simultaneously at different frequencies, virtually eliminating multi-bounce interference.
  • FM Chirp Technology: Enables longer range capability and superior signal-to-noise ratios compared to traditional CW (Continuous Wave) pulses.
  • Nearfield Focusing: Applies focusing on both transmit and receive to provide razor-sharp data in very shallow water.
  • Multi-Frequency Backscatter: Collect seabed classification data across up to five frequencies in a single pass for more accurate sediment mapping.
  • 700 kHz Inspection Mode: Provides a specialized ultra-high resolution mode with a 30° swath for critical structural analysis.
  • Modular Configurations: Available as a single-receiver (Single RX) or dual-receiver (Dual RX) system to provide swath coverage of up to 220°.
