Applanix POS MV SurfMaster

Professional-Grade Georeferencing and Motion Compensation for Coastal Surveys

Product Overview

The Applanix POS MV SurfMaster is a high-performance, turnkey GNSS-aided Inertial Navigation System (INS) designed to provide stable and accurate attitude, heading, position, and heave data. Positioned as the professional entry-level system in the POS MV family, the SurfMaster is the industry’s trusted solution for hydrographic professionals operating in coastal waters, harbors, and rivers where reliable motion compensation is essential for high-resolution multibeam surveys.

By blending GNSS data with high-rate inertial observables from a high-accuracy IMU and heading from the GNSS Azimuth Measurement System (GAMS), the SurfMaster produces a robust six-degree-of-freedom solution. It is specifically engineered to allow multibeam sonar systems to maintain IHO-standard accuracy even across wide swaths (greater than ±75°) and during aggressive vessel maneuvering.

Why Choose the Applanix POS MV SurfMaster?

  • Exceptional Value & Performance: Delivers a roll and pitch accuracy of 0.03°, providing the professional precision required for multibeam echosounder (MBES) surveys without the higher cost of the deep-water OceanMaster or Elite models.
  • Tightly Coupled IN-Fusion™ 2.0: Employs Applanix's advanced IN-Fusion technology to blend GNSS and inertial data at the raw observable level. This ensures continuous, drift-free positioning even when satellites are partially obstructed by bridges or harbor infrastructure.
  • Calibration-Free TrueHeave™: Features the industry-leading TrueHeave™ algorithm, which provides high-accuracy heave data in real-time with zero settling or "run-in" time. It automatically adapts to changing sea states without requiring manual filter tuning.
  • Field-Proven Reliability: Built on a platform with over a thousand systems deployed worldwide, the SurfMaster is designed for 24/7 operation in harsh marine environments.
  • Superior Heading with GAMS: The GNSS Azimuth Measurement System (GAMS) uses two antennas to provide a stable heading reference that is unaffected by magnetic interference or high latitudes, ensuring consistent data regardless of location.
