Edgetech 4205 Tri-Frequency Motion Tolerant Side Scan Sonar System

The next-generation EdgeTech 4205 represents a highly versatile side scan sonar system suitable for a wide range of survey applications, spanning from shallow to deep water operations. Leveraging EdgeTech’s Full Spectrum® CHIRP technology, the 4205 delivers crisp, high-resolution imagery at ranges up to 50% greater than non-CHIRP systems, enabling customers to cover larger areas and optimize survey costs.

In addition to its renowned imagery quality, the 4205 introduces several new features that enhance its flexibility and power in offshore operations. Available in either a tri-frequency side scan sonar configuration or a motion-tolerant and multi-pulse configuration, the 4205 offers versatility tailored to diverse survey needs.

In the tri-frequency version, surveyors can operate any two frequencies simultaneously from the tri-frequency system, allowing for adaptability in different operational scenarios. For instance, long-range operations can utilize a 230/540kHz combination, while switching to a 540/850kHz system provides even higher resolution surveys as needed.

The motion-tolerant configuration with multi-pulse capability empowers surveyors to operate at faster survey speeds or in adverse weather conditions while still obtaining high-quality underwater imagery. Furthermore, this configuration supports single-pulse high-resolution mode for operations requiring finer seafloor detail.

Both the tri-frequency and motion-tolerant/multi-pulse configurations benefit from improved towfish and target positioning integration, featuring a more accurate heading sensor optionally coupled with a USBL beacon. Additionally, all 4205 systems boast increased towfish power to support a wider range of third-party sensors.

Comprising a topside system and a reliable stainless steel towfish, EdgeTech 4205 systems feature rack-mountable topside processors equipped with easy-to-use GUI software. This software can be installed on an optional industrial workstation, laptop, or customer-provided PC, ensuring seamless operation and data management during survey missions.
