Dual-Frequency Imaging for Precision Navigation and High-Resolution Identification

Product Overview 

The Teledyne BlueView M900/2250-S 130/45-Mk2 is a specialized configuration of the world-leading M-Series imaging sonar. This dual-frequency system is engineered to provide a seamless transition from long-range situational awareness (900 kHz) to ultra-high-resolution target identification (2250 kHz).

The unique "130/45" designation refers to its asymmetrical fields of view: a wide 130° path for 900 kHz navigation and a focused 45° path for 2250 kHz identification. This model is specifically optimized for shallow-water operations where surface and seafloor reflections can often clutter traditional sonar data.

The Dual-Frequency Advantage

This system essentially functions as two sonars in one, allowing the operator to toggle frequencies depending on the mission phase:

  • 900 kHz (The Navigator): Provides a massive 130° horizontal view. It is used for long-range object detection (up to 100m) and safely piloting ROVs through murky harbor environments or debris fields.
  • 2250 kHz (The Identifier): Swaps to a tighter 45° horizontal view to deliver "near-photographic" detail. At this frequency, you can resolve small features like bolt heads, structural cracks, or serial numbers on submerged assets at close range (up to 10m).

Key Mk2 Enhancements

The Mk2 generation represents a major hardware leap over the original "Mk1" units:

  • Open Nose Cone: The most significant improvement. By removing the traditional solid or oil-filled cap, Teledyne eliminated internal acoustic reflections. This results in much cleaner data with nearly zero "near-field" noise.
  • Narrow Vertical Beam (900 kHz): Features a 12° vertical beam width on the 900 kHz frequency, which is specifically designed to minimize "surface bounce" and seafloor interference in shallow water.
  • Motion-Immune Processing: Enhanced internal signal processing ensures the sonar image remains stable and clear even when the vehicle is pitching or rolling in surge-heavy environments.
  • Improved Signal-to-Noise Ratio: The Mk2 hardware virtually eliminates the "noise bands" that were sometimes visible in the original models, providing a much higher contrast image.
