Product Overview The Applied Acoustic Engineering (AAE) Dura-Spark UHD 400+400 is a specialized, high-capacity seismic sound source designed for Ultra-High Resolution (UHR) geophysical surveys. While the standard UHD 400 uses a single deck of electrode tips, the 400+400 variant features two independent decks of 400 tips (800 tips total) housed within a single catamaran frame.

This dual-deck architecture allows for unprecedented operational flexibility, enabling "Flip-Flop" firing modes or "Fire-Delay" bubble-forming techniques. It is specifically engineered for offshore wind farm site investigations, geohazard assessments, and cable/pipeline route surveys where both high vertical resolution and deep penetration are required simultaneously.

  • Dual-Deck Versatility: The 400+400 consists of two decks separated by approximately 30 cm. Each deck can be controlled independently by its own seismic power supply (e.g., CSP-SNv or CSP-Nv), allowing for split-fire or combined signatures.
  • Bubble Forming Technology: By utilizing the Fire-Delay functionality, operators can stagger the firing of the two decks to manipulate the primary pulse and suppress the bubble collapse. This produces a cleaner, more stable acoustic signature with minimal ringing.
  • Stable Pulse Repeatability: Features AAE’s proprietary long-life electrodes that maintain a consistent pulse shape over millions of shots, significantly reducing the need for field maintenance compared to traditional sparkers.
  • High-Speed Acquisition: The dual-deck setup is ideal for Flip-Flop acquisition, effectively doubling the shot density or allowing for different power settings on each shot to image different geological targets in a single pass.
  • Deep Water Capability: Though optimized for UHR work, the increased tip count and power capacity (up to 4000J/s peak discharge) allow the system to perform effectively in water depths exceeding 1,000 meters.
